Job Overview

To work alongside our management team to support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for our residents. Under the supervision of the Manager and Deputy Manager, support the monitoring of physiological measurements, administration of prescribed medications, and provision of medical interventions within an agreed scope of competency.

An AP/Senior Carer will be expected to demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables them to undertake specific tasks delegated by the management team and in accordance with policies, procedures and guidelines.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

- To deliver a high standard of clinical, holistic, and person-centred care within Benoni Nursing Home, acting as a role model for Wellbeing Assistants.
- To work within clearly defined accountability frameworks, recognising the working parameters of your role and scope of competence.
- Take responsibility for prioritising your workload under the direction of management.
- Produce and evaluate person centred care plans for our residents, ensuring risk assessments are thorough, current and reviewed at least monthly.
- Administration of prescribed patient specific medications. This can include oral, topical (including eye and ear drops), inhaled and specific sub-cutaneous medications.
- Checking and countersigning controlled drugs.
- Support management in the provision of wound diagnosis and management as required within scope of competence.
- Support management in the urethral catheterisation of male and female service users as required and within scope of competence.
- To be competent in the management of emergency situations and the provision of first aid and basic life support.
- Demonstrate and maintain clinical competence within agreed and required areas of practice, engage in reflective practice and show a willingness to undertake continuing professional development.

Requirements

- Have achieved a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care
- Have a Level 3, or be prepared to work towards a Level 3
- At least three years' experience of providing care for the elderly and for individuals with complex chronic conditions.
- Effective communication skills.
- Clear, concise and accurate documentation skills.
- Effective leadership and supervisory skills.
- Demonstrate professionalism through personal practice with good attendance, performance, integrity and conduct.
- Be flexible in accordance with the service demand and nature of shift work, including weekdays, weekends, nights, and bank holidays.
