Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Support the Allocations Officer to actively work with HEIs in relation to student placement activity. Assist the Allocations Officer with the mapping of student placements throughout the Trust and maintaining the student placement database as per the capacity requirements of teams/services. Work with the Allocations Officer, CPQL and CPF team on placement capacity and quality, ensuring requests for placements can be accommodated appropriately. Work with the Allocations Officer and Clinical Placement Team to ensure clinical areas are suitable and safe for student placement as part of the wider placement quality assurance processes. Work with the Allocations Officer and Clinical Placement Team to expand placement capacity and learning opportunities within MPFT. Support the development of new and innovative processes to streamline and enhance data collection and reporting. Support the Allocations Officer by developing and implementing systems to ensure the timely and accurate collection of student details prior to placement so as to facilitate IT and Smartcard access. Liaise with internal IM&T services for the provision of Smart Cards and appropriate IT access for learners on placement. Support the Trust education governance requirements attending and participating in relevant meetings. Using effective problem-solving skills contribute to the resolution of any concerns raised by students and or placement leads / supervisors/assessors as agreed with the Deputy Director of Nursing, Associate Chief Nurse (Education) and HEIs to identify innovative solutions. Working within own professional boundaries and know when to escalate as appropriate / necessary. Contribute, alongside the Allocations Officer, CPQL and Associate Chief Nurse (Education), to determine MPFT placement capacity. Support the Allocations Officer with internal and external meetings relating to student placement and capacity. In the absence of the Allocations Officer at HEI Meetings take responsibility for agreeing student placements. Assist with creating reports to a high standard for both internal and external meetings relating to student placement and capacity. Develop and maintain own competence, knowledge and skills. Manage and priortise own workload acting independently and referring to line manager as required. Support the Allocations Officer and Clinical Placement Team with placement provision for Return to Practice students. To promote educational excellence for nurses and support workers through role modelling Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in relation to the allocation of learners and data collection processes. Works within existing policies and procedures but may propose changes and comment on policies and procedures in order to improve service delivery. May occasionally be required to contribute to internal and external audits and surveys. Apprenticeships Support the Trust in the delivery of the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship and Nursing Associate roles through appropriate clinical placement experiences for this learner group. Support the Clinical Placement Team with the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship and Nursing Associate recruitment processes e.g. organising interviews, placements, creating correct records for ESR and RIO for both internal and external students Support the Allocations Officer to maintain a record of the Registered Nursing and Nursing Associate apprentices. Support the Allocations Officer with placement capacity for those staff undertaking an apprenticeship pathway. Communication To communicate to and advise the Allocations Officer, CPQL and other colleagues on developments in relation to clinical placement capacity and seek solutions with others where issues arise. To use communication skills to negotiate, persuade and gain the co-operation of clinical and non-clinical staff in achieving increased placement capacity To ensure robust communication networks and relationships between HEIs, NHSE and the Trust. To communicate to a wide range of individuals both internal and external to the Trust through a variety of means e.g. MS Teams, E-mail, Telephone, Face to Face. People Management There are no direct line management responsibilities within this role however the post holder will be required to deputise for the Allocations Officer during any periods of extended absence. Support and offer expertise to others, such as new members of the Team, so as to ensure the smooth running of the Team. Physical demands of the job Travelling between locations across the Trust geography and beyond Advanced keyboard skills required for accurately recording / inputting data and report writing Regularly sitting for long periods of time for data entry, spread sheet management and report writing Requirement to concentrate whilst undertaking data entry, spread sheet management, and report writing with occasional interruptions for advice from staff / managers / supervisors / assessors Standing for long periods whilst presenting to small or large audiences Most challenging/difficult parts of the job The role requires the management of complex data, its collection, manipulation and reporting e.g. reporting for student activity across the Trust that will be used for NHSE student data portal collection. Ensuring that placement capacity is utilised efficiently and effectively, maximising all available opportunities. The rapidly changing landscape of training and development provision in nursing such as RNDAs, Nursing Associates and other apprentices and the pressure this places on clinical teams and practice. Occasionally required to deal with and managing complex and potentially confrontational situations that require tact, sensitivity, support, compassion and making judgments on future management.
